Mathematics Lesson Counting, Subtracting, and Comparing Quantities Using Drawings In class the students will be learning about counting, subtracting, and comparing quantities using drawings. Part of this lesson will be an interactive pop up book called Tyler's Garden. Tyler's Garden is about a boy named Tyler who has a garden. Tyler is picking flowers from his garden to give to family members. As I read the book out loud, I will have a 3-D model of Tyler's Garden that will allow the students to interactively pick the flowers as Tyler is picking them. Students will count the flowers, use subtraction to figure out how many flowers are left after he picks some, and decide which family member got the most flowers in the end. This book gives students a chance to practice their skills in counting, subtracting, and comparing quantities using drawings. Here are some pictures of the book!
