In this activity, students will learn about producers, consumers, and decomposers, while also getting first hand experience and interaction with robotics. Students will learn about producers, consumers, and decomposers, and then use a remote control robot to navigate through an ecosystem on a "Robot Safari" where they will further their knowledge on producers, consumers, and decomposers. This hands on activity will hopefully teach the students about the science material, while also potentially sparking an interest in robotics. Below are pictures of an example of this activity.

In this activity, students will get firshand experience using the engineering design process. We will read the book "Leif Catches the Wind" together as a class. "Leif Catches the Wind" is a story about a boy who uses the engineering design process to create a windmill that will help churn up the water in a pond to get the fish more oxygen. After reading the book, the students will then use the engineering design process to create a windmill of their own. Above, there are pictures of an example of this activity.

In this activity students must design and create a vehicle that will protect an egg in a collision. Students must research different technologies that protect passengers in the event of a collision. They then must use this knowledge to design and build a vehicle that will protect a raw egg in a collision. Once the students build their vehicle they will test it. The test involves putting their vehicle at the top of a ramp, letting the vehicle roll down the ramp, and crash into a wall. The goal is to prevent any cracks in the egg. In the past, students have really enjoyed this activity and learned a lot about the importance of research in engineering. Below are pictures of an example of this activity.
